Huaraz, the Small Chamonix of the Andes !

Great for hikers air or thrills, be aware that Peru is one of the best landscapes treks and mountaineering destinations in all of Latin America! Just 400 km from Lima in northern Peru in the department of Ancash, Huaraz, a small town at 3100m high will seduce you with its location in the middle of the snow-capped peaks and the many courses it offers.

Nicknamed Chamonix of the Andes or Little Switzerland of the  Andes (more and more French and Swiss settle there annually for its unique living environment), Huaraz lies between the Cordillera Blanca and the Black Cordillera of the Andes.

Huaraz impresses by the variety of its landscapes and its activities; visiting historical pre Inca sites, thermal baths, multi-day trek or one-day hikes; and it is common that many travelers are changing their plans to enjoy  the region and the experiences it offers through its mountain range. The city is also close to the Costa Norte and its coastal city Casma (about 100km).

The Cordillera Blanca precisely spans more than 180 km, dominated by the famous Mount Huascaran, the highest peak of Peru and highest tropical mountain in the world at 6798m. Marvel  coming from an intense tectonic activity, Mount Huascaran is reserved to hiking experts with its frozen lakes and sharp glaciers on multi-day expeditions. The treks are also abound in the area and are adaptable to your level and your age. Also the famous Santa Cruz trek will take you for a few days at the feet of Alpamayo, known for its knife -shaped peak or a day hike to the amazing lagoon 69 will acclimatize to the altitude.

Talking about Altitude, it should not be taken lightly and altitude sickness if not arrested or prevented, can put your stay in Huaraz strain. 2 days acclimatization is still recommended before undertaking any excursion to the highest track! Also feel free to take with you some pills treating altitude sickness and aspirin to thin your blood denser at such an altitude.
